Public Preview of External Tools in Power BI Desktop

With advanced data modeling capabilities in Power BI, you can build enterprise-grade semantic models directly into Power BI datasets, which can then be visualized on Power BI reports and dashboards. Read/write XMLA endpoints in Power BI Premium will now allow Analysis Services tools and processes to work with datasets in the Power BI service. Microsoft has just announced the public preview of external tool support in Power BI Desktop.

Enhanced Connectivity for Snowflake Now Available

Microsoft has announced the that the enhanced capabilities added to the Power BI Snowflake connector are now generally available. Capabilities include the ability to connect to Snowflake without an on-premises data gateway, support for Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication and SSO in DirectQuery mode in the Power BI service, and more.

July’s updates include several enhancements to Q&A, gradient legend support, ability to further customize slicer header text, general availability of relative time filter and model view enabled for live connect, the ability to launch external tools from Power BI Desktop, and more.
