Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 480

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes building PowerApps without AL coding, demonstrating sustainability in BC, what’s new in AL for v24, and viewing attachments to archived documents in BC24.

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community comprises professionals devoted to advancing the success of their customers. Developers, project managers, and consultants collaborate to share helpful information across blogs, forums, and social media sites. From discovering new solutions to finding answers to complex issues, these dedicated individuals are constantly sharing their knowledge with others. At ArcherPoint, we recognize and appreciate this highly engaged community’s creativity, hard work, and collective intelligence. To ensure all users can benefit from their expertise, we want to share their wealth of information with everyone.

Building PowerApps without AL coding

One advantage of Business Central is that it is easy to customize and extend to cover a multitude of business needs. PowerApps is one tool that facilitates creating extensions.

Although there are many examples of PowerAutomate, Kris (Krzysztof Bialowas) felt there were very few practical examples of PowerApps.

In a recent blog, Kris explains how he and several others created a BC extension using PowerApps without requiring the use of AL code or extensions. The PowerApp is available on AppSource for free.

Check out Kris’ blog, Power(Apps) for the Community. Fixed Asset Counting App.

Demonstrating sustainability in BC

Businesses are paying more attention to their environmental impact due to their leadership’s awareness, pressure from their investors and customers, and increasing government regulations (such as the proposed Climate-Related Disclosure by the SEC in the US, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive in the EU, and the Financial Conduct Authority Climate-related Disclosure Requirements in the UK).

Calculating an organization’s carbon footprint is an essential first step to determining that organization’s path toward net-zero carbon emissions.

Stefano Demiliani writes that the upcoming release of Business Central (v24) contains several sustainability features to help businesses demonstrate their sustainability efforts, including the new Chart of Sustainability Accounts page, Sustainability Journals, and the Sustainability Leader.

Cloud BC users can also use the Azure Carbon Optimization service to measure and minimize the carbon impact of their Azure footprint.

Find out more by reading Demiliani’s blog, Handling company’s carbon footprint with Business Central and Azure.

What’s new in AL for v24

For a look at some of the new features and less documented behaviors in the new release of Business Central, check out Erik Hougaard’s video, What’s New in AL for Business Central 2024 Wave 1 – The Hacker Edition.

Viewing attachments to archived documents in BC24

Attachments to sales and purchase orders provide important information that should be preserved, even after archiving these items. Mohana Yadav shows how to use the Incoming Document Factbox in BC24 to keep these attachments intact.

To learn more, read Mohana’s blog, View incoming documents in archived quotes and orders (BC24).
