Developer Tip of the Day: PowerShell and SQL Server (and BC On Premises)
Kyle imparts his wisdom: “PowerShell can be used to backup and restore SQL databases, which is useful for refreshing Test with a fresh copy of Production. I covered the steps for doing this in a previous blog post, How to Use PowerShell to Refresh a Microsoft Dynamics Business Central On Premises Test Database. But sometimes, especially if you are on a customer server running an older or LTS (Long-Term Support) version of Windows Server that doesn’t get updated very often, installing the SQL PowerShell module can fail with an obscure error about not being able to find the module in a repository. What that really means is that PowerShell on that server doesn’t know how to talk newer HTTP encryption methods like TLS1.3, so it can’t reach Microsoft’s repository. This article, Unable to Install NuGet Provider for PowerShell, has the steps to solve that problem. You will enable TLS1.3 for PowerShell.”
Error: Table Missing a Matching Permission Set
Tom Hunt reveals a resolution to this issue: “I had an issue today with the AL(PTE0004) error from CodeCop, saying ‘Table [x] is missing a matching permission set’. This blog entry, Missing Permission Set, told me how to fix it, but if you don’t want to read it, you can know that you need to hit Ctrl+Shift+P in Visual Studio to pull up the Command Palette and then run the ‘AL: Generate permission set containing current extension objects’ command. (You can type ‘perm’ into the Command Palette to bring it up directly.)”
