ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Developer Digest - vol 96

The ArcherPoint technical staff—made up of developers, project managers, and consultants – is constantly communicating internally, with the goal of sharing helpful information with one another.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them companywide on Yammer for everyone’s benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this group—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share them with the rest of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Community? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from the ArcherPoint staff. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

Saurav Dhyani on a bug in NAV 2016 Cumulative Update 7:

Beware of a small bug in NAV 2016 Cumulative Update 7

If you do not run the development client as administrator and try to run an object, the windows client will crash.

Kyle Hardin on managing multiple NAV versions;

“Gosh, Kyle – I have lots of versions of NAV on my system. Is there a way I can have a single management console for all of the NAV Service Tiers?”

Well, if you already knew the answer, this blog post wouldn’t exist.

  • Open a cmd window
  • MMC
  • File, Add/Remove Snap-In
  • Depending on how many versions you have installed, that’s how many Microsoft Dynamics NAV snap-ins you’ll have in the Add or Remove Snap-Ins list
  • Add them one at a time, from top to bottom
  • This should sort them according to version, with older at the top in the resulting management console
  • File, Save As, and choose a location for the resulting msc file (I keep it on my desktop)

Now you can just run that msc file and make changes to any NST you have

Word of caution: You still have to keep the versions straight, so you can’t make changes to a 2016 NST with the 2009R2 snap-in.

Saurav Dhyani on NAV Extensions and Project Madeira:

Extensions is about to Extend 🙂

I attended a session from Microsoft Yesterday about Project Madeira (specific to Extensions).

There are some great news about extensions which will also apply to NAV once released in October.

From October onwards extensions will include all object types and even more! Below is summary of what will be available in future.

I guess its time to learn Extensions now 🙂

Question on Role Center error:

Question: I have a ticket where users assigned to the Role Center – Order Processor are getting the following error message when going to the Role Center:

The date is not valid. Page Activities must close.

Has anyone come across this issue before and if so how did you resolve? Thank you

Matt Traxinger: It is probably some code in the OnAfterGetRecord trigger on the page.

Denise Blaisdell: It could also be one of the cues on the activities page is based on a date.

Response: Denise, yes I found on that one of the cues on the activities page is based on the Average Days Delayed and this is the cue that is causing the issue.

Michael Wong: I had experienced this before. As I recall, there is a date on the sales order that’s used to calculate the average days like you mentioned, however, it’s not a mandatory field so sometimes that field is left without a date. I modified the function to only calculate when the field is filled in.

Answer: Matt, Denise, & Michael: I cannot thank each of you enough for you guidance with this issue. From the information each of you provided, I was able to determine there was a record in the Sales Header table with blank Shipment Date. Once I filled in the field, voila the Role Center error was resolved.
