Visibility, Scalability, and Flexibility: Business Central Has It All
The pain of legacy ERP systems
Moving from an old, legacy software to a modern, cloud ERP can be intimidating:
- What will work?
- What won’t?
- Can I keep my old data?
- What about my customizations?
But there comes a time when holding on to outdated ERP software and hardware stops making business sense. Legacy software does not contain modern cloud ERPs’ updated business features and capabilities. This can lead to increased costs, missed opportunities, and greater exposure to security risks.
Sister companies Melco and OESD ran legacy versions of Dynamics NAV (4.3 and 3.6, respectively) on premises. They struggled to integrate with other business divisions, and maintaining their on-premises equipment became an issue.
The two companies produce, sell, and distribute embroidery solutions, and their legacy systems were holding them back. They decided to stay with Microsoft and make the move to Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS.
“We wanted to remove hosting infrastructure,” said Jordan McCroskey, President of OESD and VP of Marketing for Melco, “so we could focus on our ERP software and easier integration for distribution.”
The benefits of modern cloud ERP systems
Business Central SaaS offered the companies distinct benefits that are true for any company:
- Any version of Dynamics NAV or Navision Software can be upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. And, once updated, new releases can become a non-event.
- Business Central’s comprehensive ERP capabilities minimize reliance on add-ons and customizations. Business Central has advanced financial, distribution, manufacturing, CRM, and reporting features…
- …but Business Central is also flexible. The software can be easily customized through development or PowerApps. Business Central is also supported by a large community of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that provide additional industry-specific solutions through Microsoft’s AppSource.
- Business Central provides native integration with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft’s Power Platform. In addition, Business Central integrates easily with most modern business systems, including HR, CRM, and inventory management systems.
Using Business Central, Melco and OESD successfully consolidated the databases from both companies into one and reduced their IT costs by moving to the cloud. They streamlined their distribution capabilities with ISV products and have greater visibility across their organization.
Most of all, Business Central SaaS is an ERP that will scale as the companies grow, allowing them to add resources as needed.
Ultimately, Business Central SaaS delivered streamlined operations, increased visibility, better inventory management, and improved decision-making to Melco and OESD.
According to Dale Sanders, CEO at Melco and OESD, “We were very comfortable when it came time for a decision and the investment in Business Central SaaS.”
