Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 549

ArcherPoint by Cherry Bekaert’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes helpful resources for troubleshooting Business Central, wait statistics on SQL Server, launching an MCP Server from the AL Development Tools package, and having the Work Date change automatically (especially when you don’t want it to!).
The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.
Helpful resources for troubleshooting Business Central
Everyone can use a hand when trying to diagnose problems with Business Central, especially when all you get is, “Business Central is running slow!” What can you do with that?
In a recent blog, Waldo discusses using Telemetry to provide the hard evidence you need to diagnose and fix a problem correctly.
What makes this blog most useful is that it is chock-full of links to resources and tools, along with explanations of how they are used, which will make your troubleshooting task much easier.

Wait statistics on SQL Server
Finding out what is holding up database queries is not always obvious. There is even a 400+ page book written about the subject. Yet analyzing your SQL Server wait time statistics is important for uncovering offending processes that slow down your Business Central environment.
Duilio Tacconi discusses how to uncover wait times and use Telemetry to view the results. Tacconi even offers an example where a database lock is used and, despite not even being in the Top 10 waiting task count, the Lock wait time is serious enough to cover 46% of the time tasks were waiting.

Launching an MCP Server from the AL Development Tools package
The AL Development Tools package lets developers compile, package, and manage AL extensions outside Visual Studio Code. The 17.x version includes a command to start an HTTP-based MCP server that agents can use to invoke AL-specific development tools.
Read more in Stefano Demiliani’s blog, Dynamics 365 Business Central: using the standalone MCP Server provided as part of the AL Development Tools.
BC keeps changing my Work Date (when I didn’t want it to!)
A common issue for BC users is that they set a Work Date to a specific value, only for it to change every time they log in to Business Central.
Mohana Yadav gets to the root of the problem (Codeunit 40 – LogInManagement) and offers a simple fix to correct it. He also addresses potential issues that might arise when users base their production environment on the Cronus demo platform.
