Improved Dimensions In Business Central v18.2
Kyle informs: “Microsoft has improved dimensions as of BC 18.2. Here are my notes from this morning’s presentation:
- Dimension Correction Tool for G/L Entries (but not other kinds of ledger entries)
- Shortcuts for reporting
- Added shortcut dimension columns added to 20 ledger entry tables
- Better defaults
- Set Allowed Dimension Values per record type
- Allocate balance by dimension for recurring journal
- Two new recurrence methods
As of BC16, there is a new permission—System:6110—which allows you to disable Open In Excel and Edit In Excel on all Pages. This is a start, but it would be nice to have that as a Page property instead, so it could be disabled in some places but not in others.” Learn more about improvements in dimensions.
Issue With Permissions To Export To Excel In Newer Versions Of Business Central
Jeff F says: “I just ran into this issue with one of my clients. In a newer version of BC, Microsoft built into permissions whether a user can export to Excel or even edit in Excel. So, if a user suddenly can no longer export to Excel, and the user is not a super user, you will need to provide them with the proper permissions to do so.”
From a post by Microsoft’s Frank Spronck:
“Heads-up in case this comes your way as we get through upgrading more customers to 16.0 (SaaS/OnPrem):
Symptom: User can no longer see Edit in Excel or Open in Excel actions, or the Page group that contains them, in list pages in the Web client after upgrading to 16.0
Cause of Issue: This is related to us introducing a new system permission that empowers admins to choose that a user cannot export data to excel. The root cause is still under investigation
Affected: All non-SUPER users on premises and online
Mitigation: (1) Manually add the “D365 Excel Export Action” Permission Set to relevant permission sets or user groups, or (2) manually add the system permission 6110 “Allow Action Expo”
