Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 535

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes the Model Router in Azure AI Foundry, using MCP to provide access to Business Central functionality, AL development using GitHub Copilot, and escape rooms in Business Central.
The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.
Using Model Router in Azure AI Foundry
The Azure AI Foundry enables developers to create generative AI applications and agents, as well as build, test, and deploy AI models. Microsoft has added the Model Router to the Azure AI Foundry. Model Router is a deployable chat model that evaluates user queries for complexity, cost, and performance and selects the optimal Large Language Model (LLM) to respond to the user’s prompt. Developers can create several sizes of LLMs to answer queries ranging from simple to complex, and the Model Router will select the LLM that minimizes costs while still providing the best, most accurate answer.
Stefano Demiliani provides a thorough explanation of using the Model Router in Azure AI Foundry, accompanied by practical examples. Read his blog, Using Azure AI Foundry Model Router in your AI projects.
Using MCP to provide access to Business Central functionality
In a related story, Erik Hougaard offers an explanation and practical examples of using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is a standard that allows an AI application to communicate with another software application, execute functionality within the software, and extract data from the application in a standardized way. In this video, Erik shows how to enable AI to access and use Business Central through MCP.

AL development using GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot can be used to create AL extensions in Business Central. In this video, Saurav Dhyani uses GitHub Copilot to build AL extensions, add a new field to the Customer table, and write a posting routine that moves data from sales to the Customer Ledger Entry.

Building escape rooms in Business Central
To attract new professionals and expand the Business Central talent pool, Waldo has developed an innovative and engaging tool: Business Central escape rooms. Prospective consultants and developers with relevant skills are challenged with a series of tasks in Business Central, such as creating records, posting documents, and performing development tasks.
It promises to be a fun way to not only entice new talent to take on Business Central roles, but also provide training opportunities at the same time.
Check out his blog, BCTalent – Escape Rooms.
