ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Celebrating our developers worldwide!

In recognition of National Programmer’s Day on September 13, ArcherPoint would like to give kudos to all the developers out there who have helped change the world we live in.

This week, Solutions Review published quotes from industry leaders celebrating developers and the work they do. Here are some highlights:

Zhijie Chen, CEO at Verdent AI: “I want to recognize not only the lines of code they write, but the problems they solve and the futures they imagine.”

Kenny Johnston, Chief Product Officer at Instabug: “I’d like to give a special shout-out to the programmers of the world! It’s impossible to imagine what our world would be like without developers and the unbelievable experiences they have crafted for us.”

Wiktor Walc, CTO of CKEditor: “A good integration of LLMs with rich text editors can massively boost productivity for content creators.”

Using Telemetry for auditing? Hmmm…

Business Central supports two types of auditing: Security auditing using Purview and data auditing using the change log.

Duilio Tacconi addresses a real-life problem where a Default Dimension record set was deleted. The question became: Is it possible to know who, when, and how they were deleted?

Using the change log, it was possible to determine the user who initiated the deletion. But the user maintained her innocence.

It turns out that both are right!

Using Fabric to duplicate BC features

The Late Payment Prediction feature was introduced in the October 2018 release of BC, allowing you to predict open customer ledger entries when they get paid.

Bert Verbeek poses the question: Could that functionality be duplicated using Fabric?

Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) automates complex parts of the ML workflow (model selection, hyperparameter tuning, feature engineering, etc.) and lets developers focus on applying insights to the data. Microsoft Fabric integrates AutoML as part of its analytics platform.

Verbeek provides an example of how Fabric can be used to duplicate the capabilities of the Late Payment Prediction feature in BC, with the advantage of offering more advanced reporting and analyses.

Read his blog, Late Payment Prediction in Fabric instead of BC, to learn more.

Updating your sandbox with BC preview versions

One of the great new features of the 2025 Release Wave 2 of Business Central (v27) lets users update sandbox environments to Business Central preview versions to test new BC features and updates with their own data and installed extensions.

This is not only useful for developers and partners, but also a great tool for training users on the new capabilities of the latest BC release before it becomes generally available, using their own data and environment.

You can find out more about how to use the new preview feature by checking out the following resources: Stefano Demiliani’s blog, Dynamics 365 Business Central: update sandbox environments to preview versions, and Saurav Dhyani’s video, WARNING Don’t Make This MISTAKE with Business Central’s Sandbox Update.
