Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 540

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes sorting lines by type, viewing SQL info in BC without direct access, troubleshooting  BC with Event Recorder, and installation tips for BC v27.

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Sorting lines by type in BC v27

Microsoft has added a new sorting capability in Business Central 2025 Wave 2 (v27). Before the current release, sales and purchase documents were sorted in the order of their line numbers. Now, Business Central can process lines by type and line number. This improves concurrency and reduces the likelihood of deadlocks.

Duilio Tacconi explains the advantages of this new feature. He warns that it might interfere with existing per-Tenant Extensions that rely on the old Line Number ordering and offers advice on how to mitigate the problem if this occurs.

For more information, check out his blog, Sorting by Type and Line No. in Sales and Purchase Postings.

NEW: View SQL information without direct access

One frustration in Business Central is the inability to access the SQL database directly. Microsoft has introduced a new capability in BC 2025 Wave 2 that allows developers to track SQL calls using the in-client profiler. This feature, combined with capturing snapshots from Visual Studio Code, makes troubleshooting much faster and easier, particularly in customer environments.

Troubleshooting with Event Recorder

The Event Recorder in Business Central allows you to start and end a recording that captures all the events that occur during a process.

These recordings can be used to identify processes that are causing performance issues, help identify bugs in custom code, and determine if extensions (yours or someone else’s) are creating conflicts.

See Waldo’s blog, Troubleshooting Series – Ep4 – Event Recorder, for more.

Installing BC v27

Saurav Dhyani has put together a video that walks the viewer through the installation process for BC v27. The video covers:

  • System hardware and software requirements
  • Development prerequisites
  • Installation guidance
  • And tips for avoiding errors and optimizing performance
