How To Import Phone Data from Older NAV and Business Central Versions

Jessie Wang, a Dynamics 365 Consultant at ArcherPoint, provides a video demonstration on importing phone numbers from older versions of Dynamics NAV and Business Central, where a contact’s extension is included in the data field. In Dynamics 365 Business Central 2022 Wave 1, the phone number field is formatted to not accept letters, as it only allows for numeric values only. In earlier versions of Business Central, and in all versions of Dynamics NAV, users often would add the “ext.” and the extension number to contact records. So if you are upgrading or importing data to this version or later, you will need to remove the validation on this field to override the validation for numeric values only to complete the import or use any of the configuration packages.

This can also impact integrations with other tools such as eCommerce integrations where phone numbers are collected. View this video to learn about workarounds for the issue this validation for the phone number field presents for Business Central users.
