10 Great New Features You'll Find in Business Central 2025 Wave 1

Microsoft continues to enhance Business Central and add new capabilities. The latest release, Business Central 2025 Wave 1, was introduced last month and has several exciting new features that will help users of every stripe, including developers, administrators, and general users.

Our 10 favorite new features of BC

1. Copilot will help you autofill fields

To streamline data entry, Copilot will suggest values for editable fields on cards and document pages, such as the Customer, Sales Order, and Item cards. Copilot will look at existing company data, recently used values, and built-in intelligence to create suggestions based on the field and context. Users can always discard Copilot suggestions.

See Autofill fields with Copilot to learn more.

View PDF attachments in Business Central directly from the web client

Business Central now lets users preview PDF attachments from within the web client, making it easier to work with attached reports and other documents. Users can still download PDF attachments to a local drive, but that step is no longer necessary to view them.

See Preview PDF attachments directly in the web client to learn more.

Make AL easier to read using multiline strings

Developers can now write multiline strings in AL using the @ prefix. This makes long strings easier for humans to read, particularly when working with structured string content like JSON.

See Work with multiline strings in AL for more.

Resize the FactBox pane

Now you can resize the FactBox pane on all pages and page types that support it. Content will reflow to fill the available space, plus the new size of the FactBox is saved in the browser’s memory per user per page. This feature does wonders for page readability.

See Adjust the FactBox pane width to learn more.

Ability to cancel production orders with consumption

Microsoft has made it easier to cancel production orders, revert consumption or output transactions, return raw materials, and correct mistakes reported on operations. You can also close orders and write off accumulated WIP. This feature will be a great time-saver because previously, you would have to finish the production order and then perform journal entries to reverse the inventory impact.

See Cancel production orders that have consumption to learn more about this feature.

Check out the new Sales Order Agent

Agents can work autonomously to perform automated tasks, bringing in users when necessary. The new Sales Order Agent is Microsoft’s first out-of-the-box agent that lets companies capture sales orders from emails. Once an email request is received, the agent identifies the customer in Business Central, verifies item availability, generates a sales quote based on the customer’s request, and forwards the quote to the customer for approval. Once confirmed, the quote is converted to a sales order.

The Sales Order Agent has predefined permissions and roles and is limited to accessing only those areas of Business Central necessary to complete its tasks. One area to watch is pricing—you want to make sure the agent pulls the correct pricing for each customer.

Integrate Business Central with Field Service

Businesses that perform regular maintenance and repair services will appreciate Business Central’s integration with Dynamics 365 Field Service. The integration helps service technicians and managers handle work orders, track consumption, and create invoices. In addition, technicians and dispatchers can check where a repair item is located for a work order, such as in the warehouse or the technician’s truck. This helps companies optimize routes and maximize technician productivity.

New enhanced reporting features

Financial reporting has gotten easier, so finance departments can create their own financial reports and statements without needing help from the development staff. Users can hide empty rows, add descriptive introductory and closing paragraphs, print in portrait and landscape mode, and save the reports using Excel templates.
