Dynamics NAV / Business Central Developer Digest - Vol 386

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central development and Dynamics NAV development. In Developer Digest Volume 386, we share more BC performance tips, exporting SQL data to CSV or XML, converting C/AL to AL, a walk down memory lane, and more.

The Dynamics NAV and Business Central community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media…so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there?

So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV/BC Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV/BC experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

Performance Tips for Business Central

Stefanetti published an application that will export (in on prem environments) Objects Used and Not Used in Business Central. Convenient for identifying what object numbers are available for use.

Exporting SQL Data to CSV or XML

Stefanetti also shares how to export SQL data to .csv or .xml via PowerShell. There are many cases where you might need your SQL data in other formats, and he shows how to do so, even in older versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV that don’t have access to PowerShell natively.

Converting C/AL to AL in Business Central

Divyesh Chitte helps with the error “$Navlde was not correctly set” that one might see when converting C/AL code to AL code. See this post for the steps and a PowerShell script that will help if you are getting this error.

Creating Custom OneDrive Integrations with Business Central

Learn how to create custom OneDrive integrations with D365 Business Central from Stefano Demiliani, extending the native integration from Microsoft. He’ll walk you through the entire process including distinguishing between System and Base applications in OneDrive to ensure success.

An AppSource Cautionary Tale: Offerings and Library Apps

If you are publishing apps on AppSource, Waldo has a cautionary tale, particularly when publishing a suite of apps together. Learn all about how offerings are not “offerings” and library apps are not “library apps” in his recent article.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

In addition to Waldo celebrating 15 years of blogging, Freddy recently celebrated 20 years working in ERP. I had to do a double-take on the dates he provided because I, too was working for Navision when Microsoft purchased the company. And as I’m currently working for the last “Solution Center” I recruited as a Microsoft employee, celebrating our 20 years in business, for some reason, the dates just didn’t seem right. Has it really been 20 years?? Alas, Freddy’s memory is much better than mine. Cheers to you both for your contributions all these years!
