Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 498

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes keeping secret text secret, embedding PowerShell in Azure Logic App workflows, and new search options in Business Central 2024 wave 2.

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Keeping SecretText secret

Business Central 2023 wave 2 introduced a new SecretText data type to keep sensitive values (like passwords, API keys, custom licensing tokens, etc.) from being exposed through the AL debugger.

Erik Hougaard shows how to use the SecretText variable in his video, Protect your secret (texts) against prying eyes and debuggers!

Executing PowerShell in Azure Logic App workflows

A new capability currently being previewed by the Azure Logic Apps team is embedding PowerShell scripts into Azure Logic Apps Standard workflows. This lets developers automate tasks in Azure when events occur in other applications. Scripts can be written and executed within the workflow designer and can incorporate content from previous steps.

However, a couple of issues can make using this new capability challenging.

Stefano Demiliani addresses these issues and how to overcome them in his blog, Running PowerShell scripts in Azure Logic Apps workflows.

New search options in Business Central 2024 Wave 2

The upcoming release of Business Central lets users change their search method on list pages. Rather than searching on all possible columns, users can use the Feature Management page to choose to search on columns that have been optimized for text search. The new search option provides a more flexible full-text search capability than previous versions of Business Central.
