Business Central Developer and IT Professionals Help
If you haven’t bookmarked this page from Microsoft, Business Central Developer and IT Pro help, you probably should. It contains information about deployment and administration, and developing for Dynamics 365 Business Central using the AL language extension and Visual Studio Code. On the left menu, you will see navigation to Development in AL, AL Development Environment, Rules and Guidelines for AL Code, and access to the D365 BC API preview. It also contains links to C/SIDE documentation if you need it.
RUNMODAL Function in Dynamics NAV
Matt T. states, “So I know you can do something like this:
PAGE.RUNMODAL(0, RecRef)
and it will launch the lookup page for whatever table the record reference points too. Does anyone know of a way to determine what record was selected? I know how to do it if you hard code the page as a variable. You can use the GETRECORD function in that case. But I don’t have that here.”
Kyle replies, “Once the RUNMODAL is done, wouldn’t the RecRef be changed to whatever the user selected in the Page? Why are you trying to do this generically instead of building in a specific Lookup ACTION so you can tell the difference between a lookup/OK and a cancel?”
Matt explains, “It needs to be able to lookup any record from any table dynamically. I don’t know what table the user will choose, so I can’t pre-load a bunch of variables that point to pages. Not a hard requirement for anything I’m doing, just a nice to have.
I think I can get around it using the newer FILTERPAGE variable type where you essentially create a page dynamically from code. It doesn’t show you the data, but it does show fields that you can do lookups on. I could populate that page dynamically with all of the fields from the primary key and let the user choose that way. Not as pretty, though.”
Customs NAFTA Reports
KC wants to know, “Has anyone done any work with NAFTA Customs Reports? A client would like to replace manually creating custom reports for transporting items to Canada by automating the report. They would prefer to have a pdf file of the customs report. I am hoping that maybe someone has a customs report already created.”
Todd replies, “KC, the only NAFTA reports I have worked with are through Lanham’s E-Ship.”
Tammy F. suggests, “search nafta* in our ticketing and you’ll get a long list of cases related to NAFTA and the resources that worked on them. If you need any help let me know.”
Trish adds, “Lanham E-Ship includes the NAFTA Certificate in several different formats. I believe they work with the Export document.”
Still on Dynamics NAV 2009 R2?
Kyle declares, “No matter how bad your day was today, I bet it wasn’t “chase 2009R2 SPN problems for hours” bad. Team, keep up the good work selling upgrades. *please*.”
Saurav agrees, “Wow that was an old and bad one for me too and yes UPSI will keep on upgrading…we will upgrade them to latest and greatest NAV / Business Central version.”
Brian chimes in, “Amen brother, I feel your pain.”
