Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 492
ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes partner sandbox environments, setting up your own Business Central telemetry dashboard, trimming BC data to avoid problems later, and using the List data type in BC.
The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.
Partner sandbox environments
Partner sandbox environments are a great way for Dynamics Business Central partners to provide training, testing, and demonstrations of Business Central functionality. However, there is some confusion over how partners can configure and use these environments.
Stefano Demiliani clears up some of these questions in his blog, Dynamics 365 Business Central: Partner Sandbox Environments clarifications.
Setting up your own BC telemetry dashboard
Telemetry is an important tool for developers. The Azure Data Explorer provides a way to analyze your Telemetry and is capable of handling large amounts of data with KQL. Waldo has created a dashboard that queries the Application Insights database. The dashboard comes pre-populated with queries that help you get started, such as allTraces and entraTenantIdDescriptions.
Since this is a dashboard Waldo set up for himself, he recommends you use it (or another one developed by Duilio Tacconi) as a guide to set up your own custom dashboard.

Trimming BC data to avoid problems later
Whenever you accept data entered by users, there is always the possibility of including a leading or trailing tab or space in a text field or a slash at the end of a URL string. The Trim and TrimEnd commands are useful functions for preparing text data for use programmatically. (An extra space in a URL can create no end of problems!)
Erik Hougaard presents several use cases and how to handle them in his video, Trim your data if you want to avoid trouble!
Using lists in AL
Lists in AL are an ordered set of objects indexed beginning with 1. They can only be used to store simple data types, like integers, text, and code; however, they are unbounded and can be nested. Lists can be a useful alternative to arrays and temporary tables to help streamline data storage and retrieval.
Brad Prendergast discusses using the List data type in his blog, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: Navigating Lists.
