Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 506

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes Autonomous Agents in BC, changing retention history of Azure Logic Apps, making user management easier, and DynamicsCon Virtual 2024.

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Tools for Autonomous Agents in BC

The new release of Business Central, BC 25.0, has added two new features to the Copilot Toolkit:

  • Invoking tools automatically lets developers let Copilot create personalized responses without manual intervention.
  • Calling functions in parallel lets Copilot execute multiple functions simultaneously and combine the result for the final answer.

These two features offer greater flexibility for autonomous agents in BC and can make responses more personalized while using less code.

Changing retention history of Azure Logic Apps

When users create Azure Logic Apps Standard workflows for Business Central, the workflow can be stateless or stateful.

A stateless workflow runs in memory, and the state between actions and any run history is not preserved. Stateless workflows run synchronously and time out after five minutes.

Stateful workflows will save the workflow’s inputs, outputs, and states externally. This type of workflow runs asynchronously and has a default timeout of 90 days. Because this information is helpful for auditing and other purposes, changing the default timeout for stateful workflows can be beneficial.
Stefano Demiliani walks through the somewhat complicated steps of changing this timeout period in his blog, Azure Logic Apps Standard: workflow’s run retention history configuration.

Making user management easier

Creating and setting up a new user can be rather complicated because there are several configuration options to check, such as:

  • Licenses
  • Permissions
  • User Setup
  • User Settings

And more. Getting a good overview of all the options assigned to your users can be challenging.

In his video, Let’s make User Management better in Business Central, Erik Hougaard shows several techniques that can help make onboarding new users easier.
