Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 512

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes using DataAccessIntent, making custom Tables and Pages visible in search, “What-if” analysis, and performance features in BC v25.

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Developer Tip of the Day: Using DataAccessIntent

Just a reminder to use DataAccessIntent = ReadOnly in your reports and queries if those objects do not need to write to the database. BC will optimize that to use a read-only database copy for improved performance.

The “Search Company Data” feature in Business Central lets users search across various tables to find a table of interest. Sometimes, however, a custom table or page does not appear to be enabled for searching. To see the table or page using “Enable lists for searching”, look for a missing LookupPageId property.

Mohana Yadav tackles this problem and offers a solution in his blog, Why My Custom Table/Page Isn’t Appearing in “Search Company Data” in Business Central – And How to Fix It?

“What-if” analysis in Excel

Excel supports three types of what-if analysis: Scenarios, Goal Seek, and Data Tables.

  • Scenarios let users save different sets of values and then switch between them to view different results from each scenario.
  • Goal Seek helps users set goals and use this feature to determine the input values needed to achieve the desired goal.
  • A Data Table provides a range of cell values. Users can achieve different results by changing the values in the table.

Bert Verbeek explains how to export Business Central data and run these types of “what-if” scenarios in his blog, What-if in Excel and Business Central Data.

Business Central 2024 Wave 2 (v25) has some great new features.

In a recent blog, Duilio Tacconi talks about his top three new features that improve application performance, along with some useful advice on how they should be used:
