Dynamics Business Central / NAV Developer Digest - Vol. 530

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV development. This week’s volume includes

The Dynamics 365 Business Central community, consisting of developers, project managers, and consultants, collaborates across various platforms to share valuable insights. At ArcherPoint, we greatly value their dedication and expertise. To ensure widespread access to this technical knowledge, we created Developer Digest.

Monitor changes in one application database to trigger updates in Business Central

Azure Functions now supports an SQL trigger, so changes in one application database can trigger an action in another. This allows developers to detect updates in one database to trigger an action to be performed in another application, like Business Central. This can also facilitate integrations between Business Central and other business applications.

See  Stefano Demiliani’s blog, Azure Function SQL Trigger: how to use it (and why it can be useful in your Business Central projects).

Improved performance for calculating FlowFields in RecordRef

A new feature in Business Central 2025 Wave 1 is the addition of the SetAutoCalcField method to the RecordRef data type. This enhancement lets developers define which FlowFields should be calculated before retrieving records rather than manually calling CalcFields on every record.

Watch Saurav Dhyani’s video, New in Business Central 2025 Wave 1: Use SetAutoCalcFields on RecordRef for Better Performance, to learn how this new feature can reduce code overhead and increase performance.

Access AL source code

Getting your arms around what is happening in an application is much easier when you can view the source code of that application. That used to be relatively straightforward in the old NAV days. But today, it is a bit more challenging in the more recent versions of Business Central. How can you tell what is happening to a field in Business Central? Where is the credit limit defined and validated?

Erik Hougaard shows how BC Container Helper can be used to help you access all the source code files needed to run Business Central. Watch his video, Gain access to all AL source code from Microsoft.

Open Mirroring in Fabric

Mirroring allows developers to replicate data in Microsoft Fabric and perform tasks such as business intelligence, data sharing, and artificial intelligence on that data. Open Mirroring lets any application write change data directly into a mirrored database in Fabric. Once data is moved into the landing zone, the mirroring engine manages the changes needed to convert the data.

Currently in preview, the BC2ADLS tool supports Open Mirroring in Fabric. Open Mirroring supports .parquet files as well as CSV files, and the BC2ADLS tool can use it to export Business Central data to Microsoft Fabric, and Fabric will perform the Change Data Capture (CDC) for you.

Bert Verbeek explains how to move Business Central data into Microsoft Fabric in his blog, [Preview] bc2adls and Fabric Open Mirroring.
