Dynamics NAV / Business Central Developer Digest - Vol 373

Dynamics NAV / Business Central Developer Digest - Vol 373

ArcherPoint’s Developer Digest focuses on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central development and Dynamics NAV development. In Developer Digest Volume 373, we ask for your votes on upcoming versions of Business Central, discuss creating sound alerts in BC, debate on the best development tools for BC projects, and learn how to avoid a “messy visibility.

The Dynamics NAV and Business Central community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media…so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there?

So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV/BC Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV/BC experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

A Call for Votes! Notification Alert for Duplicate Document Numbers in Business Central

Please help the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central community, particularly Dynamics NAV customers who are upgrading to Business Central, by voting for the Notification for Duplicate External Documents in Sales suggestion. This suggestion needs more votes for Microsoft to include in the Business Central roadmap, and many Dynamics NAV customers expect this functionality to be available when they upgrade. Sign in is required to cast your vote.

Creating Sound Alerts in D365 Business Central

Speaking of alerts, the Business Central Geek was searching on forums for a built-in method to create a sound alert in Business Central. He got help from the Twitterverse and shares it in Creating Sound Alerts In Business Central, a post with a tutorial that explains how to reproduce virtually any sound or whistle in Business Central…thanks to JavaScript. He further explains: “For those not familiar with JavaScript, … don´t worry, all you need is eight lines of code. Save the file as ‘.js’”

Power Automate or Azure Logic Apps for Business Central Projects?

In his latest blog, Dynamics 365 Business Central workflows: Power Automate or Logic Apps?, Stefano Demiliani discusses the importance of serverless workflows in a cloud-based ERP solution and the 3 main technologies that can be used. He specifically answers a question he frequently gets, which is, “For my Dynamics 365 Business Central projects, should I use Power Automate or Azure Logic Apps?”

Avoiding a “Messy Visibility”

The Business Central Geek also has some good pointers to share. To follow up on his post about integrating actions between the fields of a list to create a “shortcut” for repetitive tasks, he now offers help for different parts, groups and grids. In The messy extensibility visibility, he explains how to customize pages and not to end up with a “messy visibility.”
