Upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Business Central: What About Future Upgrades?
At ArcherPoint, we love Microsoft Dynamics NAV. And Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the next logical step for all NAV users. Therefore, we strongly urge our customers to plan for an upgrade to Business Central as soon as schedule and budget permit. But moving to Business Central can be confusing – there are many questions and a lot of misinformation about moving from NAV to Business Central.
In this blog series, we tackle the most frequently asked questions from our customers so you can make an informed decision about when, why, and how you should plan to upgrade.

- What are Events and Extensions?
- What About My Add-Ons?

- How Long Will Our Upgrade Take?
- How Much Will This Upgrade Cost?
Once you complete the migration from Microsoft NAV to Business Central in the cloud using Events, “upgrades” as you know them will be a thing of the past.
As one of our upgrade specialists has said, “After Eventing, all an upgrade will be is deploying new features…the move to BC will be the LAST upgrade you’ll ever need.”
Events and Extensions were developed for the purpose of making upgrades easier, faster, and less disruptive. Because they are no longer in base objects, customizations are not impacted in future upgrades. This allows the core application to be upgraded without impacting your customizations. With that task out of the way, your future “upgrades” will be fast, painless, and inexpensive...essentially a “non-event”.
If you’re using any add-ons developed by an ISV for industry or function-specific requirements, these need to be Evented as well.
REMEMBER: With the ArcherPoint Stay Current Plan, you’ll never have to worry about upgrades again, regardless of how much your business changes or grows. The future is unknown, but the Plan removes the risk regardless of what the future brings.
We strongly encourage you to look to your Dynamics upgrade partner for help with deciding on your path to upgrading from NAV to BC. There are many considerations, but if you have a partner who understands the upgrade process and work closely with them on where you are now and where you want to be, the upgrade does not have to be painful. Also, talk to us about upgrade subscription from ArcherPoint. This takes the burden off your shoulders and puts it into the hands of the experts.
In the next blog in this series, we’ll discuss things you can do now to make the move to Business Central easier when your time and budget allows.
